That means that it is a game for everyone. To extend it a little more, it is saying, here is a game that the entire family can play together.

This video game console has a 512MB flash memory and it is compatible with Nintendo GameCube discs as well as 2-cm Optical discs.

What’s in the Box

When you open the Nintendo Wii box, you will find a Console, a Wii Remote, Nunchuk, Sensor Bar, Wii Console Stand, AC Adapter, AV Cable and a Wii Sports Disc.

Wii Remote

The Wii Remote, which is in the shape of the traditional remote control, has kept the conversations of many persons, lively. The uniqueness of this device is the reason for that. This Remote is your control to winning or loosing a game of boxing, gold or tennis, just to name a few. Many video games have a wire or two that runs from the controller and connects to the console or vice versa. This is not the case with this remote. This remote is wireless. It is a motion sensor Remote and you can be as far as 30 feet away from the console and it will carry out the action(s) you want it to. It virtually takes you out of your seat and places you in a boxing ring or on a baseball field.

Wii Remote’s Strap

The Wii Remote comes with s strap that is placed around your wrist to prevent it (remote) from dropping unto the ground when it is being used. However, the strap has been proven to burst easily. Nintendo have taken steps to replace the original version of the strap with a newer version though. The newer version is a bit stronger than the one that it was released with. The release date was on the 19th November 2006 through to the 9th December 2006. Customers, who have the original version of the strap and need it to be replaced, can visit the Nintendo website and follow the replacement instructions.

Safety Instructions

There is some safety instructions that will be helpful when playing with Wii so that you can get the most out of the game.

Use the Wrist Strap

For the first couples of times it may or may not feel unusual for you to play a video game with the controller attached to you wrist. Nevertheless, it is recommended that you use the remote with the strap attached to you wrist; and as with everything else, with practise, it will become more comfortable and easier. When you place the strap around your wrist, there is an adjustable lock on it, tighten it around your wrist.

Do Not Let Go

The strap is not an excuse to let go of the Wii Remote. It is not recommended to have the remote dangling from your wrist. The strap is there for just in case the remote accidentally slips out of your hand. For example, if you are playing a bowling game, when you bowl the ball, hold fast to the remote. The same goes for all the other games. If your palm is sweating due to excitement or for some other reason, please wipe it off.

Clear the playing area

When you are playing Wii, give yourself a lot of space so that you can move around without bumping into anything.

Take a Break

In the “heat” of a game, no one wants to stop playing. Still, it is recommended that you take a break from playing the game after every hour. A 10-15 minutes break is okay.

Wii Features Comparison

When the xBox 360 was launched a new generation of consoles was born and with it new expectations and features previously unheard of. The Xbox 360 introduced to the mind-blowing graphics, hi-speed online compatibility and excellent tri-core processor, which put gaming in a different league altogether. It looked like this gaming device had everything that there was to offer – and the price indicated how valuable such features were.

However, the Nintendo Wii has changed that conception as soon as it has been launched in the market. Not only it offers many added advantages to all other (latest) gaming devices, it is also coming at an astonishing affordable price. In fact, the pricing is one of its most attractive features.

The Nintendo Wii is a greatly improved version on the existing models, including the latest craze, the Xbox 360. The latter has had a few hiccups after the launching:

1. Lack of availability – people had to book it months in advance and even then they were not assured of their set. On the other hand from day one, the Nintendo Wii in stock and easily available at all the exclusive outlets. People were able to enjoy the game right from day one, and nobody had to suffer waiting queues.

2. Internet compatibility snag – the Xbox comes equipped with excellent hi-speed broadband engine (3.2Ghz); however, it cannot download from the Internet unless the right software is installed first. This problem is not there with the Nintendo Wii because it comes with direct connectivity and can download just as easy. With this feature the Nintendo Wii can download and use other excellent games such as Super Nintendo, Sega (Genesis), Nintendo DS, Turbo Grafs-16, etc, which adds not only to your massive great game collection, but also to the magnificent experience of playing.

3. The Playstation 3 has introduced hi-innovation into gaming first with its Blue-ray drive and Sixaxis controller, which was vastly improved upon by the latest sensation worldwide, the Nintendo Wii. The latter offers a sensor-based remote, which beats all records in pleasure and action simulation.

4. Most of the past (latest) hi-tech play-stations are upwards compatible with other games of the same and similar genre. However, the Nintendo Wii is the only one yet, which is compatible backwards. You can play and use all the extras you have with the GameCube when you use the Nintendo Wii. This is a great feature as it does not render obsolete the past model and hence, adds to the pleasure of playing the old with the new games.

5. All the past Playstations have brought in excellent features with their games, and each of them conquered the hearts of their fans. The Nintendo Wii has the advantage of building on all the past experiences and indeed it brought out the best ever features with the Zelda-The Twilight Princess, Brawl and Pokemon Battle, Corruption and others that are yet to find their match is maneuverability and level of experience.

All in all, the Nintendo Wii is the latest and the best next generation gaming system ever!

Benefits of the Nintendo Wii

The Nintendo Wii gaming system is a great game console, which has successfully harnessed the latest technology to simplify technicalities and at the same time enhance the pleasure of the game. The Nintendo Wii is coming after the successful launch of Nintendo Game Cube and using this as a base, has some excellent new integrated features while the price has been kept at the ‘affordable’ levels.

Excellent features: There are many excellent features that the Ninetendo Wii offers – the first that needs mention is that it can accommodate four players with the help of remote controls. Most of the peripheral devices are compatible with those the Nintendo Game Cube and hence, those who are ‘upgrading’ it would have no problem.

Many extras: There are a good number of extras that the Nintendo Wii has launched and needs if you want to enjoy the full effects of the game. One that needs mention here would be the Nunchuk controller, which brings many added control features to the game making it possible for the gamer to perform some excellent maneuvers in their favorite games (i.e. Zelda: Twilight Princess, Red Steel, etc).

Wireless gaming: There is more. The Nintendo Wii sets you free! This game is wireless which makes the playing an experience that is hard to get de-addicted from. You will definitely have a hard time letting go of the controls because they have so many advanced features and each one of them would thrill you, as it would open to you a new door of entertainment.

Built In Internet connection: The Nintendo Wii, true to its high-tech age, has direct and built in Internet connection. This Internet connection is active even when the Nintendo Wii set has no power supply. This is a great feature since its players can have uninterrupted gaming experience, not only within their own private network but over the Net with other players world wide. You can connect with the help of this Internet connectivity instantly to the Nintendo DS systems anytime you like to do so.

You can download games: The Internet connectivity would enable you to download hundreds of games from the series of EA Games, Sega or any other that are compatible with the Nintendo series. This is an excellent added plus – since it gives you wings with your games – you will never be bored again!

Child lock: The Nintendo Wii comes with a provision of locking the games that should not be available above certain age levels. This had been on the demand list for a long time now – and the Nintendo Wii answered it well. Now, you can lock the levels you think are not suitable for children. It would need a special code to get by and cross the levels above the age barrier you have set.

Backward compatibility: The Nintendo Wii, unlike the most of the latest games, is compatible backwards as well. You can use most of the old extras as well as software. You can play all the games of the Game Cube through your new Nintendo Wii and hence double your joy by alternating between the old and new games that would keep you and most of the member in your family ecstatic.

Parts of the Nintendo Wii

The Nintendo Wii is a video game console. A video game console is a device that is used for playing video games. The Nintendo Wii is a 7th generation video game console and we are presently in the 7th generation of video games console. This era begun in November 2004 when Nintendo released Nintendo DS. However this is the fifth video game console that Nintendo has brought out on the market.

The Nintendo Wii is compatible with all Nintendo GameCube games. 8cm Nintendo GameCube disc as well as 12 cm Wii Optical disc are also accommodated.

Designed with two areas for sliding in memory cards, it also has four ports for addition accessories.

This entire game comprises of the Wii Console, Wii Remote, Wii Nunchuk and Wii Sensor Bar, Wii AV Cable, Wii AC Adapter, Wii Console Stand and Wii Sports Disc.

The Console

The Console comes in various colours and is about 8 ½ inches high, 6 inches wide and about 2 inches in depth. You have the option of positioning it in the horizontal position or the vertical position. With that being the case, if there is only a small space among your other entertainment pieces, then it will fit in perfectly. On the other hand if you have a large area then it will also fit in wonderfully.

Wii Remote

The Wii Remote is in the shape of a regular remote control and it is also a wireless device. A child to an adult can easily operate this remote. It is as simple as swinging it from left to right, or up and down. It can be used as a weapon and it can be used as a racket in a game of tennis. For example, if you are playing a game that involves a weapon, then the remote itself is your weapon. So you will point it (remote) at your target.

If you are playing tennis then the Wii remote is your racket. Yes, it is your racket, so you will move your arms and body as if you were on a tennis court. This motion sensor remote also has a port for connecting other accessories to it. There is also a speaker inside of the Wii Remote.

Wii Nunchuk

The Wii Nunchuk is used in conjunction with the Wii Remote. This motion sensor device has an analog and two buttons on it. It connects to the Wii Remote and while one function is carried out by the remote such as moving an object, the Nunchuk does the rest.

Sensor Bar

The Wii Remote sends its signals to the sensor Bar and your action is reflected on the television. You can be at about 30 feet away while playing a game and it will respond. On the other hand if you are just using it as a pointing object you can stand about 15 feet away and it will respond to your command.

Wii AV Cable

This is the console’s power cord.

Wii AC Adapter

The Wii AC Cable is what you use to connect the console to the television.

Wii Console Stand

As the name suggests, you mount the console on this stand. Nevertheless, if you do not want to use the stand then you do not have to.

Wii Sports Disc

This disc has five sports games on it; they are baseball, bowling, boxing, golf, and tennis. Since more than one remote can be used while playing with the video console then your friends can also join in the fun. Additional remotes and other accessories such as the Classic Controller are sold separately.

Nintendo Wii Details

The Nintendo’s Wii is a video game console. When it was first launched across the world market it was on the 19th November 2006. However, I will say a little bit more about this later in the article.

The console of this device is about 44mm wide, 157 mm high and 215 mm in depth. It also weights about 2 ½ lbs. With these measurements it will make the Nintendo’s Wii the smallest home system thus far. It can be displayed in the vertical and the horizontal position

What Does Wii Mean?

The two lower cases letters, that is “ii” in the word Wii symbolises two players playing side by side. The name is pronounced “we” which speaks to the fact that the game is for everyone. Yes, everyone, it is not just for the young, or just for the older population. It is for everyone. The name Wii is not an abbreviation for any other name. More than one player can play with the Wii games at a time

Launch Stages

When Nintendo’s Wii was release on the 19th November 2006, this was not done throughout the entire world. It was available in the United States of America, Canada and Brazil, just to name a few of those places. After this launch though, from the 2nd December 2006 through to the 9th December 2006, it was made available through out the rest of the world. Japan, Italy, Iceland and Spain are just a few of the many other countries that it was launched in.

The Wii Console Package

The Wii package comes with the Console, AV Cable, and Sensor Bar, Nunchuk, Wii Sports Disc, Wii Remote, Console Stand and AC Adapter. In Japan however, the Wii Sports Disc is not a part of the package

The Wii Remote comes with a strap that is attached to the remote and it goes around the player’s hand. The strap is there to help to prevent the remote from slipping out of the hand and unto the floor in the height of a game.

Accessories

Accessories are also made available for the Wii video game console. They are the Wii Remote, Nunchuk and the Classic Controller. The prices for these accessories individually range from $20.00 US to about $40.00 US

Wii Console Sales

The Nintendo’s Wii is presently sold for about $250.00 US. This 7th generation game console sold over 600,000 consoles during the first several days of its release. That is, in the Americas. When it was released in the United Kingdom it made history by selling approximately 105,000 consoles. This was done on the first few days of its release. Whereas when it was launched around Europe 325,000 consoles were sold in the first couple of days.

Perks and Support

This device which was originally given the name Revolution can also be registered at the Nintendo’s website. By registering your new Nintendo’s Wii you are given opportunities to enter sweepstakes and contests. Also, there is a 90-days warranty extension and special offers are made to you, just to name a few.

There are several ways that you can get the most out of this product. Nintendo has a Wii Fan Site, a Wii Newsletter, a Wii Forum and a Nintendo Power Magazine is also printed. The Nintendo’s Wii was only available in the colour white when it was first launched. In recent times however, it can be found in red, silver, green, and black as well as in the original colour, white. The Console comes with many exciting features, which includes various channels, backward compatibility and parental control.

Wii Advancements

Gaming created to be accessible and fun to people of all ages and abilities, and was inviting as well as being sophisticated. The Nintendo Wii has a compact design that makes a natural addition to any entertainment setup. One of Wii’s drawing factors is the remote control and its motion-sensing technology to entice people of all ages. The remote could be your steering wheel, a tennis racket, or a weapon depending upon your game of choice

The Nintendo Wii is more than about gaming it features a compact design that makes it a natural addition to any television setup. The Wii is backward-compatible to all Nintendo GameCube games and includes four ports for controllers and two slots for memory cards. A self-loading bay plays single or double-layered 12 cm optical discs for the Wii console, as well as 8 cm Nintendo GameCube discs. Relatively small about the size of 3 DVD cases stacked up on top of each other, and it can be laid out flat or in style by the use of the console stand. The Wii console communicates wirelessly with the Internet via wireless or a Wii LAN adaptor, and can communicate via wireless technology with the Nintendo DS

The Nunchuk builds on the simplicity of the Wii Remote and goes an extra step to meet the needs of gamers. The Nunchuk connects to the Wii Remote via the expansion port and is used in conjunction with the Wii Remote. In many of the games the players will use the analog stick of the Nunchuk to move characters, and perform specific actions. Both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk are somewhat dependent on each other, and therefore allowing players to hold them in either hand. This grants accessibility seldom seen in other game controllers

The Wii uses Bluetooth technology and allows you to stand as far as 30 feet away, and up to four Wii Remotes can be connected at once. The Classic Controller which is sold separately allows the player to play classic games available through the Wii Shop Channel.

Wii console revolutionizes how games are played, and will provide an offering of a variety of entertainment, information and communication channels. The Wii menu allows for integration among the entertainment lives of each family. For fun, the Wii Remote can be personalized by a fun 3-D character called a Mii, and Miis can be stored in the Remote, and then transported to a friends house to be played on another Wii

Potentially the Wii has a bright future. The cost will be an advantage over other systems, such as Ps3 and Xbox 360. Another major advantage is the appeal to normal or classic gamers. The Wii Remote with the Nunchuk is the catch for the non-gaming market, providing for a fun and interactive physical game, as if you were the action on the monitor.

The graphics are lacking to some degree, and have been compared to the original Xbox which weren’t very well liked. Between the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii the games on the Wii look bad to the human eyes. Gamers want the graphics to look as real as possible. In time these graphics will become available. The more knowledge gained then more work will be done to achieve better graphics

Overall the Nintendo Wii is a good source of entertainment, and its future looks bright. Nintendo is all about fun, and that’s the Wii, fun, engaging, and even gets a person up and moving around while still in the living room.

Features of the Nintendo Wii

The video gaming console world is a very highly competitive world with new additions being made to it every now and then. The latest addition to the gaming console world is the Nintendo Wii that is aimed at providing Nintendo a breath of relief with the benefits and features it offers.

Keeping up with the recent development on consoles, the Nintendo Wii comes with a single controller. This controller is basically a two part controller where one part is a Wiimote and the other, a nunchuk. However, to enjoy the thrill of Wii sports games like tennis and boxing, you need at least another set of controllers. With the Nintendo Wii supporting a maximum of four controllers you may buy a spare controller that is available in the market.

The Nintendo Wii comes with a pair of standard AA batteries. However you will find that the batteries get drained quickly, especially if the nunchuk is attached to it as it draws power from the Wiimote. So instead of buying endless stream of AA batteries, it is better to buy rechargeable batteries.

The Wii is a gaming console that is fully backwards compatible with the Nintendo Game Cube. However you need a Game Cube controller to play these games. If you prefer playing wireless, then the Nintendo Wave Bird is a better option. However, if you have a Game Cube, its controllers can be used in the ports found in the top of the Wii. These controllers can also play with the Wii’s virtual console games; thus saving you the need to buy a Classic Controller.

You will have to have Game Cube memory cards when playing Game Cube games if you want to save your progress. This is because your progress cannot be saved in the Wii’s internet memory or an SD card. You find two lots to the next of the Game Cube controller ports to place the memory cards.

The greatest feature of the Wii is the Virtual Console that permits you to buy games that came from the original Nintendo Entertainment Systems. You can buy these downloadable titles using a Nintendo currency called Wii points where you have an exchange rate of 100 points per U.S. dollar. These Wii points can be bought directly from the console’s online store or with prepaid cards found in different denominations.

If you find that the built in storage of the Wii’s 512 MB memory gets filled with Virtual Console games, you can expand the available space using an SD card. The Wii also has a wireless access point where you are provided access to online channels like news, weather and even an Opera Web browser. You access the internet for free using the Wii’s built in Wi-Fi. Of course, you need a nearby wireless access point or router for internet access or plug into a PC using a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector.

Though the Wii does not the have the horsepower to handle high def graphics, it can do DVD level 480p video and looks better on large HDTVs. If you plan to see the Wii games in 480p, it can be done using a Nintendo proprietary component video adapter.

The Nintendo Wii Compared

It is true that the release of PS2 and Xbox has increased greatly the expectations of the game lovers all over the world. The application of technology has indeed made gaming consoles a favorite pastime of millions across the globe. The Nintedo Wii fully rises to the expectations of the people who were looking forward after reading the press releases about it. As it is, the Game Cube, its predecessor has already made a rock hard place in the hearts of the gaming crowd.

The Nintedo Wii (pronounced as 'we') looks great! It has a very sleek, rectangular-shaped box, which comes in a multitude of colors. Its slot receiver has a blue LED that adds to its attractiveness. The best thing about Nintedo Wii (and what is expected of today's technology) is that it is exceedingly simple, in spite of the fact that it has more features than any game console available today. This compared great to the somewhat flashy Xbox 360, which is quite intimating in its looks and functionality.

The Nintedo Wii does not come only with good looks, but also great features. In fact, as I mentioned earlier, this could very easily be the best there is yet in the market. The Nintedo Wii delivers well on its promise to give its fans a totally novel and exciting gaming experience. The innovation has come in the form of a seemingly ordinary remote controller – which actually features a motion sensor, which highly improves the feel and effect of the games it controls. This is particularly true to the all-time favorite games such as Zelda the Twilight Princess, which comes alive with this motion sensor remote control.

The hardware of the Nintedo Wii is as impressive as its all other features. It works on an IBM CPU (512MB) and ATI graphics card. It has two USB ports and wireless controllers as well as wi-fi inbuilt antenna for direct Internet connectivity. A little hitch comes with its inability to project on HD, but it can give you a manageable output on HDTV mainly because Nintedo Wii comes with a 480p progressive scan feature.

Though the Playstation is a futuristic model – some reports have mentioned that it guarantees compatibility with all present and future TV sets – the Nintedo Wii does not severe it backward links. You can use it with the old versions including retro games. Wow!

To summarize, the Nintedo Wii gives you all that you wanted ever in a gaming play station and much more. The wireless connectivity, the fact that it enables you to download directly games from the net, and its compatibility to all types of TV sets and old version games and its portability (it is minuscule when it comes to size – the smallest yet play station) makes it a gold mine for any game lover.

Look at the above paragraph and as you realize the amazing features it offers you – you will appreciate much better its affordability. The Nintedo Wii comes at a sensational and unbeatable price, which ironically make it even more priceless.

Why the Nintendo Wii?

The advantages of owning this coming-of-age game are many. Let us throw up some of the most obvious ones, which make this game one of the bestsellers of all times.

Great availability: The Nintendo Wii has become extremely popular as soon as it has been launched and it has created a very large demand in the market. Fortunately, the supply of the game is fast and uninterrupted and hence, if you want to get yours, chances are that you will get within the week (if it is out of stock in your favorite game shop). This might not be a direct benefit on the game itself; however, gamers know how frustrating it is to wait and wait and wait for their favorite consoles to come on the market.

It gives variety: With the Nintendo Wii you have plenty to choose from – there are all the types of games you can imagine, and more – shooting, adventure, sports games, everything. Besides, it has released some excellent new games such as Zelda, which is fast becoming a hot favorite world over.

Affordability: This is one of its greatest advantages. It is highly affordable and for its popularity, this is like a dream-come-true for many. Usually, to be able to own an excellent play station takes a lot of effort and money – yet, the Nintendo Wii is both easily available and highly affordable. The cost is all-inclusive, i.e. it has the best extra (voted by many as the most popular extra) – the Nunchuck control attachment, the regular remote controls, adapters, etc.

Portability: The Nintendo Wii is extremely tiny, given the act that it covers all the bases of gaming exhaustively. You get everything you need with the Nintendo Wii, plus Internet in-built connection, wireless remote connectivity and a wide plethora of games, ability to connect and download other compatible games from the Net – all this in a tiny package that weighs next to nothing. The Nintendo Wii is just about three DVD tall. Since it is wireless and so small you can carry it wherever you like so you can enjoy a great gaming experience everywhere you go.

As with anything, the Nintendo Wii has its downsides as well. These include:

Graphics could have been better: For the excellent games and features that this futuristic play station offers, the graphics could have been much better. This does not, by any chance, say that the graphics are poor in the games of the Nintendo Wii; however, had the graphics been better the gaming experience would have been unsurpassable.

Overall, the Nintendo Wii is a great game to own and play with. The fact that is backward compatible also adds to its value since those who already are acquainted with the Game Cube and want to continue playing these games while moving on in technology level, can easily do so with the Nintendo Wii. Not only that, most of the extras can be attached to the Nintendo Wii, which allows you to maintain your level of comfort until you are ready to let go. It is one of the greatest buys available today!

Some Basic Information About Nintendo Wii

The gaming industry is growing day by day; and today, its latest addition is the Nintendo Wii. It is basically a console that is very small, and is equivalent to the size of 3 DVD cases placed together. It has a front loading disc assembly that accepts not only the regular CDs, but also Wii discs and smaller Game Cube discs.

It can be said that the Nintendo Wii is basically a much stronger version of the Game Cube, and can very much replace it. The Nintendo Wii is run by a PowerPC Processor from IBM and comes with a modern onboard graphics engine with a 512 mb flash memory. If required, there is also a provision to use an external memory card if you need additional space for storage.

The Nintendo Wii also comes with a Bluetooth so that you can use a maximum of four cordless Wii controllers at a time. This provides for complete entertainment to the whole family by encouraging them to play together. If you prefer corded play, the Wii also has a Game Cube controller jacks on the top of the console to provide for this. There are also 2 USB ports for using additional peripherals and 2 Game Cube memory card ports with which it is possible to load and save Game Cube games to and from the Wii.

Another benefit of the Nintendo Wii is the internet access it provides and it’s USB. With the help of an Ethernet adapter and the Wii network capability you can easily gain access to any of its online features. Of all these benefits, the greatest benefit that the Wii offers is its backwards compatibility.

With this feature, it is possible to use the Wii to play practically all games that have been developed by Nintendo. So if you had owned a Game Cube or Nintendo DS previously, it is possible to play its’ games on the Wii. Moreover, the Nintendo Wii also helps in family matters as the whole family tends to stay together with the Wii. With this increased interaction, the Nintendo Wii lets the whole family play games together.

Parents can use the parental control feature found in the Wii, which is available with an update. This feature prevents youngsters from playing games not suitable for their age. Once a child attempts to play such a game, the Wii automatically reads the content rating in the games data. Once the rating is larger than the age limit on the Wii system, the game is not loaded till a stipulated password is entered. However, this feature is ineffective in games specially designed for the Game Cube.

So if you are deciding on the best gaming console to buy for your family, the Nintendo Wii is the best choice for you. This is a gaming console that produces games that both adults and children can play. And with its parental control, you can control what games the kids play.

New Wii Fit Details

The active-play phenomenon started by Wii Sports now spreads to your whole body thanks to the pressure-sensitive Wii Balance Board (name not final), which comes packed with Wii Fit.

The board is used for an extensive array of fun and dynamic activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. Now it's time to see who's up to the challenge, as players take on the world in Mario Kart Wii Tournaments.

Every few weeks, a new tournament will appear on the Mario Kart Channel, an online feature that not only allows players to compete in tournaments, but also exchange race data with friends. Tournaments might take the form of a challenge for players to race a certain course as fast as they can with specific characters, or to collect a number of coins on a course using the Wii Wheel™ accessory or another control setup. They can feature unique rules or obstacles on the course.

The first tournament, which appears today, directs racers to compete for the fastest time on the Mario Circuit. Look closely though – something may be different. Players can attempt the challenge as often as they like during the duration of the tournament. Their best time will be recorded and added to the worldwide rankings, allowing players to see how they stack up against the best racers from around the world.

Wii Therapy And Exercise

The Wii is all about innovation and opening up gaming to a whole new audience. With the console now being used for exercise and therapy, has it gone beyond Nintendo’s wildest expectations?

Simple answer to the question, yes. When Nintendo started bleating on about the Wii a couple of years ago they constantly talked about expanding the gaming horizon. They wanted to get new people playing videogames and to create a system with a hugely varied userbase. What they’ve got, is a cultural revolution. When something catches the imagination of the world like the Wii has it tends to get some fairly interesting press.

The other day a story popped up about how the Wii is being used by the US Army as a means of healing the wounded. Never in Nintendo’s wildest dreams could Nintendo have expected this. Over the last few months we’ve seen it being used in old folks homes, as part of exercise regimes and even as a method of shedding the pounds to get into shape. All of these cases have demonstrated one thing: the Wii can move beyond the videogames industry and into wider culture. Once there, the world of ‘self help’ is its oyster. Fitness and gadgetry are two of the biggest obsessions in Western culture, and the Wii is able to tap into both. The media has an obsession with telling us how we can get fit and healthy and there are always new and ‘exciting’ ways of doing so popping up. The Wii is perhaps the biggest new entry on the scene.

At the Sedgebrook retirement community in Lincolnshire (USA), where the average age is 77. A report in the Chicago Tribune details how the residents, most of whom have never picked up a video game controller in their life, are turning to the Wii for entertainment.

"I've never been into video games," said 72-year-old Flora Dierbach last week as her husband took a twirl with the Nintendo Wii's bowling game. "But this is addictive...They come in after dinner and play," she said. "Sometimes, on Saturday afternoons, their grandkids come play with them. A lot of grandparents are being taught by their grandkids. But, now, some grandparents are instead teaching their grandkids." Sunday afternoon at the home is now all about the Wii. This sort of thing is great publicity for the Wii.

Over the years the industry has gotten some very bad press, but feel good stories about the Wii bringing together kids and grandkids and helping keep the eldery healthy and entertained is a glowing endorsement of what Nintendo are doing. It would seem that in one swift move, all the negative stigmas about gaming in the mainstream press have somewhat been ebbed away.

In an article published on the online version of the US military newspaper Stars and Stripes, it has been revealed that in certain cases the Wii can prove to be a useful tool for healing the wounded. Army Spc. Shawn Roberts who is assigned to the 581st Signal Company in Kuwait, volunteered to use the game as part of his therapy routine. The Wii is being used to help him regain full movement after he broke his wrist and elbow and partially tore his rotator cuff when the vehicle he was in rolled over. He couldn’t move his wrist for more than a month because of the screws holding it together.

“I wasn’t expecting much out of it,” said Roberts after using the game. “You know, it’s a video game. How much could it really do? But you don’t notice it while you’re doing it because your mind’s on the game. But then when you’re done? I was sore....I do all the same exercises, but with the Wii, your mind’s off of it, and you do it a lot more. It’s more fast paced and that kind of thing.”

Staff Sgt. Bryan Vallerie, an occupational therapy technician, said the game wouldn’t replace anything in the department’s physical therapy repertoire but could enhance treatment for some patients. “It’s a healthy, fun alternative to doing these things,” he said. The department are going to analyse the results of using the Wii for therapy. The advantage of using the system, they claim, is that it gets rid of the monotonous tedium of physical therapy. With the Wii, you’re doing the exercise but at the same time you’re having fun.

The most detailed analysis of the Wii’s impact on personal health came thanks to one man’s idea to use the Wii to get into shape. Entitled the ‘Wii Sports Experiment’, it aimed to prove that playing Wii was a viable method of exercise. Mickey DeLorenzo, a 25-year-old living in Philadelphia, decided to meld exercise and gaming together and form a full report on what he found. The blog he kept attracted a huge amount of interest from publications such as the New York Times, CNN, the BBC, TIME, The LA Times, The Sydney Morning Herald and also on TV through FOX and NBC. The media circus that surrounded one mildly plump man playing Wii to get a bit more toned was somewhat ridiculous. But it worked. Mr. DeLorenzo got into shape, lost 9lbs, his body fat percentage went down from 19% to 17.2% and his body mass index (BMI) went from 25.2 to 24.0. The full results of the experiment can be read through here:

http://wiinintendo.net/2007/01/15/wi...iment-results/.

So what does all this tell us? Well, whilst industry analysts go on about how the Wii is making a huge difference to the demographic of the gaming market and Nintendo drone on about how many units they are selling, perhaps this is the real story of the Wii. It is a cultural phenomenon, albeit a somewhat brief one so far, and it is really making a difference. Little by little the Wii is changing the world...sort of.

Short Games, Mini-Games – Who's To Blame?

A lot has been made of games being shorter and increasingly 'casual'.

Along with some of the more narrow-minded arguments where Wii's success will apparently bring the 'downfall of our fair industry as we know it', one of the cornerstones of this laboured misconception is that gaming will lose its hardcore dominance, software will degenerate into mini/non-games and the market will no longer sustain the sort of titles many of us grew up on.

Of course, it's all a load of decaying animal faeces.

Wii isn’t going to create a gaming apocalypse, there will be a mixture of all game types on the system, and casual/non-gamers have long been an influential part of videogames in one form or another. More so now because the audience is larger and more diverse than it's ever been, and the medium has evolved massively over the space of its three decade-plus lifespan. But as they say, 'the more things change, the more things stay the same'.

However, one thing that has become increasingly apparent is that we're looking in the wrong places to attribute culpability when it comes to the growing number of shorter, 'small' games. We blame casuals, non-gamers and Nintendo via Wii for supposedly pandering to them.

But we're burning the wrong witch.

If you're looking for someone to blame, don’t point a finger at them. Instead, invert that twitchy little RSI fated digit to yourself and you'll find the culprit.

Because we're all to blame. Every single one of us.

We've always consumed products faster than it takes to create, no matter if it's food, music, film, games or whatever. That's just the nature of things. But the dawn of the digital age, internet and all, seems to have amplified this substantially, making us less willing to digest and savour what we've just watched, read or experienced. We want to get to the point and fast. We ask people -regardless of whether they're friends or strangers- to tell us why a piece of entertainment is worth our time and money, because both concepts are so valuable to us, and then when we get it, all we want to do is progress to the end as quickly as possible… or at least have someone let us know it's worth it.

We live in a time where spoilers are totally prevalent and movie trailers give away all but the whole film, if not a few of its twists, just to get audiences to pay attention. Where we delight on getting 'first post' even if we have nothing to say, just to be, well, first. Where anything which takes longer than a few minutes to read can often get shunned (after all, are you REALLY reading this, or are you merely skimming for the essentials?) and extended features within the print medium are a dying breed over snappy sound-bites and pictures.

We want to know what happens in our entertainment without experiencing the effort taken to reward it, and so it becomes a little like having nothing but sweets for breakfast, lunch and dinner; they taste great at first but there's no substance to them. And so the craft rots away like our teeth would after meals of nothing but chocolate and candy. No essence, no challenge.

And they exist because there's a market for them. We've made it that way.

Is there any wonder why many developers want to stick to shorter games when our attention span is so fleeting? After all, why spend thousands of dollars and several years making something that lasts over 50 hours when we're all just going to complain that the beginning is too slow, how we want to get to the end quicker (both things I've often heard levelled at Twilight Princess), that we can't be arsed, and how other games demand our attention?

Why are we in such damn a rush?

All these mini-games and such are a reflection of a changing society, where speed is of the essence. The handheld market is bigger than ever, because playing games in the gaps of doing other stuff is an easy way of getting a quick fix. We're too busy to play at home, and when we're not at home we're at work/school/whatever, but a 30 minute stint on the bus or train? Perfect.

We've been pandering to this sensibility for years as the range of distractions grow in the shape of new media, with new ways to take up our free time. How many of us have unopened DVDs? Games that we've been waiting years for, only to remain unfinished along with the rest of the shelf-bound titles that we keep promising to get back to? CDs where we don’t even wait until the end of a certain track before skipping to the next one, made all the more notable because we can't even remember the track titles anyway? I'm certainly just as guilty as anyone of committing these bad habits.

The games industry is one of the fastest growing within entertainment right now. But it's also becoming hugely expensive. As budgets increase, so do the risks – and many developers live in fear that the game they've spent a moderate portion of their lives dedicated to will end up on the 'bomba' pile all too quickly. Whether it's because we, as an audience, are giving it a decent chance or not is academic. But this is why shorter, more casual games are so attractive to those who make them.

It's true that while big established names and sequels always have a chance in this progressively more throwaway market, new intellectual properties and brave ventures take a leap of faith where there's a greater likelihood of them disappearing without a trace (Beyond Good & Evil) than getting a much needed lifeline in order to start a fresh and successful franchise (God of War). And even then there's a possibility we'll just complain that our beloved sequel is too long, too tired and too familiar for our ever-changing tastes.

This isn’t to say it's an excuse for poor software. Nor is it to say Wii will be flooded with smaller, quicker games. It's no secret that some of the higher rated Wii titles are also among the longest (Zelda, The Godfather and Resident Evil 4). But supply must meet demand; it's simple business. And right now, the demand across all territories is for the games we hardcore so often frown upon. We're a vocal minority, but when it comes down to it, no matter how loud we shout, that 'minority' part speaks far louder. The silent majority lets the chart sales speak for them.

Nintendo was essentially smarter than any other company because it saw this happening and aimed to fill the gap as quickly as possible – and if the big N hadn’t, someone else would have, because companies like Yahoo! Games and Miniclip were already tapping this expanding and difficult to ignore demand. Wii (and DS) offer what our society currently craves, crafting the art of not only the 'throwaway' game, but also more nostalgia-tinged software which manages depth beyond the simplicity it belays – as was the case with many titles during the medium's formative years.

However, just because a game is short by typical standards, doesn’t mean it has no longevity. The ability to create titles that allow us to dabble without long term commitment but have a distant goal, is a valuable one, marking a more careful transition from lengthy gameplay to something more transitory. Titles like WarioWare and Wii Sports provide this in varying degrees, and have that indispensable crossover appeal that draws in people from all demographics. The psychological factor cannot be underestimated for these types of games – we're aware we can be entertained in small doses, but we're rewarded for MAKING time to delve deeper. It's this intangible and tricky element that holds the key to satisfying both casuals and hardcore gamers, allowing us to get plenty from our games without feeling guilty should we abandon them for newer ones barely a month later. Which we inevitably will, given the large array of choice on offer.

But the transition isn’t going to be fast -ironically- and as we can see at the moment, development teams will initially struggle to get that balance, which will do no favours to anyone wrongly equating 'short' and 'mini' with 'bad'. Yet gaming is a business, and if it doesn’t follow market trends and what it thinks the audience wants, then it will die a slow and painful death. What you're seeing is merely a reflection of what publishers need to survive in this cut-throat and fast moving attention-seeking world.

But don’t confuse Wii for being the cause when it's merely a symptom of something we've all had a hand in… regardless of whether we like the results or not.

The Wii's New Best Friend - Electronic Arts

I recently saw a vision of Wii's future. You may have seen it too.

It involved an image of a big pink alien… thing, dressed in 70s gear, dancing to the rhythm of the funky beat.

Bizarre. And somewhat scary. Yet, this visualization could well end up pushing Wii into stratospheric sales levels. Who'd have thunk it?

And who'd have thought it would be from Electronic Arts?

You've probably already seen the rather… imaginative, delights of Boogie, EA's strange but appealing rhythm action/karaoke/party title for Wii. Coming this autumn/fall, Boogie is a freaky beast that capitalises on three of the fastest growing genres in gaming, and squishes them all together into one rather bulging whole, complete with Wii remote control compatibility and a USB microphone packaged into the bargain. The aim is to offer a title where you can sing or dance along to around 40 numerous cover versioned hits (including U Can't Touch This by MC Hammer, ABC by The Jackson 5, Groove is in the Heart by Deee-Lite and Don’t Cha by Pussycat Dolls). Obviously singing requires the mic, where you're judged by pitch, tone and accuracy, as seen in Sony's excellent SingStar series, but it's the dancing mode that could offer the most novel (and potentially painful) experience.

EA is using the motion sensing capabilities of Wii's remote and Nunchuk, to allow you to strut your stuff in time to the music. Waving and twisting the former activates certain dance moves, while the latter rotates your on-screen character's head and triggers its mouth to lip-synch the lyrics. Naturally, a wide variety of moves and combos can be pulled off to keep things fresh, which will probably go well with the challenge of trying to avoid smacking any bystanders in the noggin while you do your thang (and make your body sing).

With multiplayer (co-op and competitive) modes, the ability to record your performances, and outfit your characters in various costumes, Boogie may well be Wii's biggest third-party hit this year… and I say that without sarcasm. It's designed to capture the mainstream audience that is currently so well-tuned into the console, and by mixing both singing and dancing components, it does something no other home title has tried before. Meaning even if it doesn’t manage to be as good as it has the potential to be, the sheer lack of competition in its genre will make it popular merely by default. If you've seen how big SingStar and Dance Dance Revolution have been with casual and non gamers on PlayStation2 (a feat mimicked by the superlative Guitar Hero series, which is also Wii-bound) and then add them together, multiply by Wii's popularity and then take away the relative impracticalities that unfortunately come with large dance mats or even bulky pseudo instruments, and you have something that is destined to be a massive hit.

Making this all the more certain is EA's rather cynical mining of fashionable pre-teen franchise, Bratz, in the design of Boogie's more human characters. The similarities are pretty shocking, but it seals the game's success by marketing directly to the oft neglected young female demographic. Consider that age/gender group is rarely ever targeted on a whole by the big videogame publishers, AND that currently both Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 are perceived to be very 'male' machines in their software library (rarities such as SingStar notwithstanding) and it's clear EA knows exactly what it's doing. As an exclusive title, the company will be pushing Boogie massively on TV and other media, making it THE game for the ever expanding non and casual audience which is increasingly important to Wii's growth.

Boogie is arguably the greatest example that EA, of all companies, 'gets' Wii. It understands the machine, the demographics, and most of all, its potential. Even though the much maligned third-party was a little slow off the mark in providing titles for Nintendo's console, it's managed to recover quicker than its competition and thus slot into place as one of the machine's most dominant software partners in terms of both output and most surprisingly of all, quality.

Along with a superb iteration of Madden NFL, The Godfather: Blackhand Edition was among the first notable signs of EA's keen perception, given its fantastic show of how Wii can elevate and evolve the third-person free-roaming action genre. In fact, Blackhand Edition became the most critically accepted version of The Godfather, warts and all, leaving gamers wondering just what an original Wii game of the same ilk (or maybe just Grand Theft Auto) could provide if this is just a first-generation title.

Since then, EA has followed up with its expected sports franchises, such as Tiger Woods PGA Tour and SSX, which have wiped away the more bitter tasting -if not terrible- examples of Need for Speed Carbon and Medal of Honor that graced Wii's launch line-up. While not as sterling as Blackhand Edition and Madden, none have been as bad as many would have guessed, certainly outshining most other third-party offerings which were expected to be more consistently first-rate but have faltered in getting to grips with Wii's hardware. It's a strange, bizzaro world when EA is making better use of innovation than its rivals, but Wii seems to have awakened (for now) its verve; revealed by the fact many hardcore gamers are actually looking forward to the next instalments of the cash-in franchises they once disparaged, because these sequels can hopefully expand on the substantial promise shown in this early batch of Wii games so far.

Even the forthcoming Harry Potter tie-in, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, is creating a buzz from promising impressions. A combination of sandbox gaming and Wii remote controlled magic could well result in an essential purchase will be extremely difficult to ignore, should the fantasy potential of magic wand = remote, follow through competently… especially when you consider how this is among the many much-requested 'dream match-up' ideas for Wii's unique controller (along with it mimicking a lightsaber, sword and bat… hmm, sensing a theme here).

It's perhaps slightly ironic that EA, the company known for bleeding its intellectual properties and licenses dry to the point of creating apathy within the hardcore gaming community, would now be among the forefront of exciting Wii development across the board. But it makes perfect sense, in a way. The company is easily one of the most powerful and resourceful in the games industry, and thus has less to lose in taking risks (even if it's not a publisher known for large gambles). It can afford to throw a little more money into Wii development, knowing franchise power alone could allow it to break even, as long as the game isn’t catastrophically bad.

In fact, while Blackhand Edition is arguably EA's best title on the Nintendo console, it's sold the worst by far -although not helped by the sheer lack of advertising-, yet the company knows it can take the financial hit by expanding things further with sequels and related titles. And for once, gamers may not mind if it means the next Godfather game can be built from the ground-up using Wii's capabilities. Just to cap things off, the icing on top of this grand cake is EA's usually high production values, meaning we'll likely be seeing some of the best visuals on the machine, too.

Whether or not Electronic Arts manages to keep this momentum of decent-to-excellent Wii games remains to be seen, but few would have predicted this would even be a valid question barely six months ago. Which says a lot for the California-rooted developer and publisher. However, one thing is certain; with its high profile licenses, shrewd design choices and presentational polish, most of its titles WILL sell well. And as EA shifts more of its resources into Wii development, the chances of creating a well crafted hit become higher, making it the third-party to beat in terms of consistency, output and effort. Bizarre -somewhat like a big strutting pink alien- but totally true. So if it means EA is going to lead the Boogie-driven beat for other companies to follow… so be it.

Let the industry dance-off begin.

Buying Nintendo Wii

In the last few decades many companies have targeted the video game industry. No product in the recent past has done well in the market without being innovative. There are so many companies operating in each products market that they can only remain in competition if they remain innovative enough to stay ahead of their competitors. Same is the case with the video games market. The leaders are there with their strong market shares just because they believe in improvement of products. The innovative nature of their products makes them a success in the market.

Nintendo Wii is the recent video game console launched by the Nintendo Company. This company is a giant in the video game world. Along with other attractions in the package being offered by the Nintendo Wii, the sports games are the hottest one. The inclusion of these games to the total package has resulted in increased sales of the product.

The new technology is involved while you play tennis on Nintendo Wii. The famous motion detector Controller is involved. The swing and movement of your hand with the remote in it will be recorded. This movement will be then translated to the movement of the games character. For example, you will have to move your hand to serve while playing tennis. More than one player can play this game if you want to. This flexibility is liked well by the video game players.

When you try to play Baseball with the help of Nintendo Wii, You will have to pitch and bat. The remote will be used as your baseball bat and the motion detector will record your shots. Even pitching is to be done in the same way. The speed of your movement will determine the speed of the ball. Nintendo Wii baseball is a three innings baseball game. Thus it is a good practice game if you want to play baseball. Many of the video gamers enjoy playing sports games on Nintendo Wii than on any other console.

You can enjoy bowling if you have a Nintendo Wii. The motion detector will detect your movement and the direction and speed of the bowl will be decided by your movement. The B-Button on the remote is used to release the ball from your hand. The spin can be adjusted by moving the player in the game. Four people can play the game at one time.

Golf and Boxing are also included in the list of sports game which you can play on Nintendo Wii. The speed of golf ball and the direction in which you plan to hit the ball will be determined by the movement of the remote control. Nunchuks, on the other hand, will help you with the boxing game. Nunchuks and remote are to be used to punch and block your opponent while boxing.

Nintendo Wii: Flooding the US Market

Nintendo Wii has been a recent success in the video game world. The Nintendo Wii has proved itself to be a huge success all around the world in fact. On November 14, 2006 this super hit video game console was launched in United States of America. Originally the game was called Revolution but for marketing sake it was changed to Nintendo Wii before the game was launched in the North American region. When the game was launched in American, it was claimed by the company that six million of its copies will be sold around the globe. The company has stood true to its words. They have already sold more than a million in very little time span.

The package of the Nintendo Wii being sold in the US is a very impressive one. It has the console in it. The sensor bar, Remote of Wii, Nunchuk, Wii sports Disc, Wii stand, AC adapter and AV cable are also included. The controller is the feature in the Wii which is liked by almost everybody who has played this game. The total package offered in the US is a bit more pricey. As a solution to this problem the company is now offering the console separately as well.

The console itself is very important as it is the actual home of the game. It is a light weight object but it is highly technical. It is a nice to look at type stuff. It was awarded The Best Show award in 2006. The console has an optical media bay which helps you connect it to Wii discs.

Even at a distance of 30 feet, the blue tooth technology allows the Wii remote to send and receive signals. The game you are playing will have some characters. The movement of these characters can be remote controlled by using this device. This is one of the reasons for the success of this game internationally.

The Nunchuk is also an added feature to the whole package of Nintendo Wii being sold in the US. The Nunchuk uses the same technology as the Wii remote. It also has an analog remote which helps you handle the characters movement in the game. These are little technical devices but these actually are the reason of the huge success of this video game in the market.

The Wii sports disc helps you play the games like tennis, bowling, golf and boxing etc. The technical features help you play it while having more fun. The movement detector is the main source of fun in this regard. Due to these and other features of the bundle being offered to the North Americans, the game is high selling. Many of the retail stores are already out of stock. This video game console has become the highest selling consoles in the US.

Nintendo Wii Controller

The recent decades have seen science and technology taking the charge of human life. Innovation is the modern way of life. Technology has taken over not only on the work and business side of our lives but also on the entertainment side. Video games are one such innovation which are liked by many people around the globe. A number of big brand names are competing in the market to get hold of a greater market share in this expanding market. Not all are as successful as Nintendo Wii. The Nintendo Wii is a recent success in the world of video game consoles. Many video game fans have appreciated the Nintendo Wii due to the capability of the video game to adjust to the players need. The graphic capability is also much enhanced. There are certain features in this video game which have added more to the video game. Nintendo Wii controller is one of them.

The Nintendo Wii controller is named as Revolution. True to its name it is revolutionary in its nature. It has brought many changes in the video game world. The controller basically is a remote control like object. It has wireless connectivity thus making it possible to run the game smoothly. It is a very sophisticated piece of technology added to the package of Nintendo Wii video game console. The controller is a very easy to use feature thus the complexity of learning how to play a video game is removed. The Nintendo Wii controller gives the gamer the flexibility to raise the level of complexity according to the players choice. This brings complexity and thrill in playing the video game. This makes the Nintendo Wii fit for all ages.

The controller is a very intelligent device added to the video game console. It can detect motion. It makes you move to play the game. For example, to play Wii sports you have to move and actually play the game. The controller will detect the movement and will continue your game on the Nintendo Wii. The controller is also capable enough to make Nintendo Wii a three dimensional video game console. The controller is capable of detecting signals at a distance of 30 feet from the controllers sensor bar. This shows that the product itself is technically much advanced.

The Nintendo Wii controller is said to be the most important feature of the Nintendo Wii.
